Authorities continue to investigate the cause of a Friday afternoon fire at a Bowling Green apartment complex.
At around 4:15 p.m. on Sept. 7, fire erupted in building eleven of Chandler Park Apartments.
That's the apartment complex located behind the Greenwood Mall.
Firefighters say there are about 24 apartments in this building and nearly half were either damaged or destroyed.
People were inside some of the apartments when the fire struck, but got out safely.
"I was just trying to get the kids out hoping we can get out safe and that's all at that point in time," said Lilly Vanwyk, a resident of the building.
The owners of the apartment building put the tenants in a hotel for the weekend and plan to find other apartments in the complex for them to move to in the coming days.
The American Red Cross is providing clothing and other necessities to the families and Wal-Mart-mart brought water to the families and emergency workers at the scene.
The apartments were less than a year old.
Investigators were on the scene this weekend to determine the cause, which is still unknown.
They plan to return to the apartments on Sept. 10 to continue investigating.
