President Obama toured a Chrysler plant in Michigan today and touted the success of the Government assisted bankruptcy that GM and Chrysler went through last year.

$85 billion in taxpayer dollars were used to keep the companies afloat.

President Obama said more than a million jobs could have been lost if the two companies had gone under.

So how have the companies been doing jobwise since the government intervention?

"last year, many thought this industry would keep losing jobs, as it had for the better part of the past decade. Today, u.S. Automakers have added 55,000 jobs since last june. The strongest job growth in more than ten years in the auto industry."

Looking at GM and Chrysler specifically, the state of Michigan says Gm has shed 10,000 jobs and Chrysler has added about 3,500.
