ELKHORN CITY, Ky. (AP) -- An eastern Kentucky town found itself short on police officers after the police chief quit to take a job as an officer in a nearby city.
Elkhorn City Mayor Mike Taylor says the city has only one uncertified police officer who has not yet attended the state's 18-week police academy after Anthony Maggard's resignation Thursday as police chief.
Taylor told the Appalachian News-Express (http://bit.ly/Jdg7Di ) he would hire the new police chief once he looked into the officer's background and qualifications and after that officer gave notice where he is currently employed as a certified police chief. Taylor hoped to have a new chief in place by Tuesday.
Maggard resigned to take a job as an officer with the Coal Run Police Department.
