BOWLING GREEN, Ky (WBKO) --The Drug Enforcement Administration and local law enforcement teamed up to collect hundreds of pounds of prescription drugs this weekend. Anyone with unused or expired prescription drugs could anonymously bring those prescriptions to the Bowling Green Police Department, the Warren County Sheriff's Office or KSP Post 3 during the DEA's take back initiative. The agencies are taking them to the DEA to be environmentally disposed.
"Doing it this way is an environmentally safe way, instead of just flushing it down the commodes, or throwing them away in your garbage which goes to our landfills and gets into our ground water. Plus it gets these pills out of the home. Alot of people that are prescription drug abusers are breaking into residences and actually stealing medications," said Kentucky State Police Public Information Officer. Tpr. Jonathan Biven.
Trooper Biven says they collected more than 600 lbs of prescription medication. All three local law enforcement agencies also have a drop box that can be used to drop off prescriptions anytime.
