More than 100 animals were seized from a western Kentucky home after officials say they found poor living conditions.

Daviess County Animal Control Director Ashley Clark says officials were called to the home Wednesday on a complaint of possible animal neglect. Once inside, Clark told The Messenger-Inquirer, they found 18 dogs, 30 rats, 16 mice, 33 birds and three snakes, all of which were removed from the home.

Clark described conditions inside the Owensboro home as "deplorable, even for the rats and mice."

No charges had been filed against the home's occupants as of Thursday afternoon. Clark said she would review the case to determine what charges she would file.

Clark said animal control will also ask the homeowner to formally surrender the animals.
