An auction is being held next month to raise money in an effort to save one of the oldest buildings in Trigg County.

The Kentucky New Era reports the Trigg County Historical Society plans the auction on March 2 at the Trigg County Complex and hopes to raise $25,000 for the 1850s brick building that houses the group. Historical Society past president Ken Oakley said the building was used as a hospital during the Civil War.

Officials say proceeds will be used to help Trigg Fiscal Court come up with matching funds so it can qualify for a $250,000 state transportation grant.

Oakley said the building needs to be stabilized and needs a new roof and new windows.
