Aviation Heritage Park to Add NASA Plane to Collection

"NASA maintains a fleet of the airplanes so the astronauts can travel from one place to another when they need to, and also maintain some level of pilot proficiency while their training to fly in the shuttle or some other space craft," said Aviation Heritage Park Executive Vice President Dan Cherry.

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) -- Officials at Aviation Heritage Park are prepararing for another addition, and this one is coming from NASA.

The T-38 Talon will honor logan coutny native Terry Wilcutt. Wilcutt is a WKU graduate was a marine corps fighter pilot, and astrounaut, who actually flew the super sonice jet trainer.

"NASA maintains a fleet of the airplanes so the astronauts can travel from one place to another when they need to, and also maintain some level of pilot proficiency while their training to fly in the shuttle or some other space craft," said Aviation Heritage Park Executive Vice President Dan Cherry.

The plane currently in Tucson, AZ, where it is being restored before it can make it's way to Bowling Green, where it will undergo more restoration before going on display. Cherry says the plane will be unveiled at the park's annual hangar party in June.
