BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) - For those who want to help the victims in Oklahoma and across the Midwest, the Better Business Bureau says it's time to be aware.
Plenty of supplies and monetary donations are needed across the Midwest, but before you rush to donate the BBB says take your time. Plenty of people want to take advantage of your generosity during disasters.
"They really come out of the woodwork and they don't care what they have to do to get your money. They will tell you anything to get your money. So I say if it's a phone call or if it's someone coming through the neighborhood call your police department," says Linda Chambers from the Better Business Bureau.
When you decide to donate the BBB says get the charity's exact name because there are often copy-cat names.
Never send cash or wire donations.
Resist pressure, the BBB says a reputable charity will take your donation at anytime.
Finally, be cautious while giving online. E-mail's can take you to fake look-a-like websites.
