BRASS Hopes Domestic Violence Victims Will Seek Help

By Kristin Martin |

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) -- It's National Domestic Violence Awareness Month and the Barren River Area Safe Space is hoping people will come to them if they need help.

BRASS offers free services to victims and their children -- like counseling and referrals for housing.

The services are confidential and they don't publicize the location of the agency, so victims can feel safe.

Also, BRASS takes calls 24/7.

"Just know that you are not alone, and it's okay to know and admit that I'm in a domestic violence situation. Many times women stay because they are in fear of their lives. So it's okay to know you can get out of that situation, and we're here to help you," said Fontayne Bryant, children's advocate at BRASS.

She said one in four women will experience a domestic violence situation, and BRASS sees about 350 families per year.
