Baby Was Sleeping in Room Next to Meth Lab

Updated: Thu 6:34 PM, Sep 20, 2012

Bowling Green Police bust a meth lab on in a townhouse on Lost Woods Ave. this afternoon.

"I had got up and I looked outside in apartment A it was smoke coming out of the top bedroom window," Mary Bullock says.

Bullock lives three doors down and was the first to witness the smoke.

"When police officers arrived they were able to get inside of the residence they had determined that there was a small fire inside... In the bathtub to be specific," says Bowling Green Police Public Information Officer, Ronnie Ward.

Vanessa Souls, who lives next-door, has a baby who's been on breathing treatments for a month.

She says Justin Collins, 28, has lived next door to her for about a month and a half.

She fears, there may be a connection.

"The baby's room is right next to their room where they were cooking this stuff. And so now, we have to find out if this is what's going on with our child."

Earlier this week Souls says her baby woke up in the middle of the night screaming in pain.

"This past Sunday I had called the police at 3:00 AM because my child was screaming like I had never heard before."

Souls says she often sees people going in and out of the house, any time of the day.

It was something that made her think suspicious activity was going on.

This was still something that left her in shock.

"I can't believe it that this is happening right next-door to me," Souls says.

Police say Justin Collins is being charged with manufacturing methamphetamine and two counts of wanton endangerment.
