Basketball Tournament Raises Money Toward Child Abuse Prevention

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) -- WKU's Kappa Delta Sorority hosted its 12th Annual Shamrock Shootout this weekend on campus at the Preston Health and Recreation Center to raise money for a worthy cause.

The two-day basketball tournament is designed to raise money to prevent child abuse.

Anyone can play -- good or bad at basketball. Some people even traveled from other states to play.

Last year the event raised $20,000.

"Everything we do goes toward the kids, 80 percent of our proceeds stay locally and they go to the Family Enrichment Center here in Bowling Green, and then 20 percent goes to our national foundation, Prevent Child Abuse America. This weekend's been great. It's been such a wonderful opportunity to plan and work with these people and organize such a great event for the children really," said Karen Powell of Kappa Delta.

Powell says she's confident the event would raise the goal of $27,000 this year.
