BOWLING GREEN,KY --Summer is winding down and while many seasonal businesses and tourists attractions are closed for Labor Day, one amusement park that is now closed on weekdays actually opened today just for the holiday.
"Alot of people consider this the last day of summer on Labor day weekend, but from our perspective, we still have three more good weekends to go. If we have sunshine and high heat this weekend, I'm sure we'll have plenty of great swimming and rides to ride," said Beech Bend Park Director of Operations Reed Gonzalez.
Beech Bend's amusement park and splash lagoon will be open for three more weekends until Sept. 22, and later this September they're having an event Gonzales says was inspired by two former WKU classmates who are battling cancer.
"It's been tough especially, you know everybody is effected by cancer. It effects everyone, so we're doing a fundraising event here at the park where ten percent of all the proceeds we take in that night from the WKU night go towards cancer research," said Gonzalez.
The event is also a rare chance to enjoy the rides at night.
"You come in and it's a $20 admission for those five hours, and you get to ride the rides at night time which we never do. The park is never open at night," said Gonzalez.
Gonzales says the event will be exclusive for WKU students, faculty, and alumni and a one guest per person. WKU night will be at Beech Bend Park on Sept. 14 from 5 to 10p.m. Tickets are $20 per person.
