KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Police say divers have discovered human remains near the scene where a truck, linked to a man who was last seen in 2010, was found submerged in water.
The Knoxville News Sentinel is reporting that divers discovered the remains Friday near the area where the 1996 Ford Ranger pickup was pulled from the water under a south Knoxville bridge. Police have determined that the pickup was the same one driven by 19-year-old Derek Ryan Funk, who was last seen May 12, 2010.
Knoxville Police spokesman Darrell DeBusk said investigators have yet to determine whether the remains are that of Funk. Officials have said the truck was upside down and about 20 feet from the shoreline. Investigators say the pickup appeared to have been in the water for a while.
