In celebration of Bowling Green’s bicentennial, the City is sponsoring a “Why I love Bowling Green” writing contest. Students may create a poem, narrative, or essay. Only one piece of writing from a student may be submitted.
This free contest is open to Bowling Green and Warren County students who are in grades 5th through 8th for the 2012/2013 school year. The deadline for submission of writings is Monday, September 3, 2012.
One overall winner will receive a $300 cash prize at the September 21, 2012 Bicentennial Open House from 4 to 6 p.m. at City Hall. Second and third place will receive $150 and $50 respectively. In addition, each of the first, second and third place winners will receive a certificate commemorating the award.
Essays, narratives or poems should be written about “why you love Bowling Green or what you love about Bowling Green.” Essays should not exceed 1,000 words. Award winning writings will be published on the City of Bowling Green website as well as other social media sites.
Writing entries will be judged primarily on content and creativity, but also on grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
