BOWLING GREEN, Ky (WBKO) -- The Bowling Green Human Rights Commission is celebrating 48 years of service to the community.

In honor of their journey, the commission sponsored a free Fair Housing event today, titled "Get on the Bus.

State Street Baptist Church hosted a presentation full of guest speakers, then participants boarded buses.

They took a guided tour of the city to learn how segregated communities have impacted Bowling Green.

"We'll also look at how our different communities have transformed into businesses and have replaced what used to be segregated communities," said Alice Waddell, Bowling Green's Human Rights Commission, Executive Director.

The commission's goal is to advocate for fair treatment and equal opportunity for all Bowling Green citizens.
