It was a day to honor those who protect and serve.
Bowling Green Police Chief Doug Hawkins presented dozens of employees with service awards for their continued hard work and dedication to the department.
The most prestigious award, Officer of the Year, was awarded to Ryan Dillon.
Dillon began as an officer, but was recently promoted to detective.
Police work is something Dillon says he will always love to do.
"A lot of people say they sign up for police work because you get to help people and that's true. It's rewarding helping people and doing good things and doing the right things. It's also fun and exciting and the good thing about this department is it's like a family," says Dillon.
Other awards handed out Friday include Civilian of the Year and three Life Saving Medals to officers who went above and beyond their call of duty.
