Bowling Green Prepares for 'American Idol' Auditions

Updated: Wed 6:30 PM, Aug 08, 2012

They are kind of waiting a few days before each location to announce the specifics as far as the time date and location, but we can say they will be here within the next couple of weeks," says Marrisa Butler with the Bowling Green Convention and Visitor's Bureau.

It's expected that between 800 and 1,200 people will be auditioning when "American Idol" rolls the bus into Bowling Green.

"When you say 'American Idol', when you say singing competitions, you know, that is the gold standard. And when that comes into town, and it is "American Idol', it's going to set this town on it's ear. People are going to be absolutely amazed at the response," Tony Rose with SAM 100.7 told us.

"I certainly expect to see people from across the region. Just in Montana they had people driving six hours just to get to their audition site. So, I certainly think we're going to see a number of people from around the region," Butler says.

Tony Rose says there is a lot of talent in the Southern Kentucky area.

"You look at somebody like Kelli Pickler who came from a small small town and now is a major country music star and 'Idol' was the reason for that. We could have that next star who's, rather than working at a restaurant or going to college, whatever it may be, who's looking for that big break and this is that opportunity for them."

Several other people have made it past the first round on "American Idol" from this region, but there was one person who made it to an elite group.

"We had a young lady by the name of Sarah Lawrence about five years ago who actuall made it to i believe it was the top 25. So, there's a lot of talent right here in our own back yard," Rose says.

The only thing 'American Idol" is releasing right now is to be prepared to audition with short notice.

Kara Grey Wilson made it to the top 80 auditioners out of 10,000 in 2011 in Houston.

She gave some tips for those of you who plan to audition in the next few weeks.

"Be yourself, practice the songs before you go in there, know the words, do not be quiet. I saw a lot of people that i thought had a good voice, but I thought were kind of quiet in the initial try-out with the first judges, and they didn't like that so well. So, be loud, be yourself and have a good time."
