Bowling Green to Add Hundreds of Jobs Soon

A part of Bowling Green's landscape will be changing in the near future.

Jobs, it's been arguably the biggest point of emphasis for several in our area and now Bowling Green will be getting more of them, thanks to new stores coming into the city soon.

"What we have coming in here is a new retail shopping outlet which will include a DICK'S Sporting Goods, Bed Bath and Beyond. We're excited to have those new jobs coming in, and then Meijer will be coming just around the corner with another couple hundred jobs with an entirely new development here at Gary Farms Boulevard," said Bowling Green Mayor Bruce Wilkerson.

"It's very good. It's going to bring more revenue into our city and more revenue for the citizen's pockets," said Bowling Green City Commissioner Melinda a Hill.

The developer on this project is Phil Warren out Nashville and his business is already prepping the site.

The addition of DICK'S Sporting Goods, Bed Bath and Beyond and Meijer are the latest additions that city officials say is helping bring the area out of the recession.

"It's a slow climb. We've had some good announcements lately, especially in the manufacturing field, even one a little bit later this week we'll be announcing. So, we're making some progress and the entire city commission is behind working toward bringing more jobs into the community," said Wilkerson.

Commissioners say it's a constant, they're always trying to boost the economy.

"We continue to look for ways to bring new businesses into our community. We partner with the chamber of commerce, county government as well as regional and state government to bring new opportunities for our citizens," said Hill.

Now, the work on the new site should begin soon.

Construction should move fast because workers at the site say they're hoping to have dick's open by November in time for the holiday shopping season.
