LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) -- Officials say a 13-year-old boy has drowned while attending an academic camp at Transylvania University in Lexington.
The Lexington Herald-Leader reports the coroner's office said in a statement on Tuesday that the boy was pronounced dead Monday after arriving at the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital.
The coroner's office didn't release the child's identity or hometown at the request of his family.
The statement said the boy was found "unresponsive" in the pool at the William T. Young Campus Center on Transylvania's campus.
The university said the teen was attending a weeklong residential academic camp called Introduction to Java Programming, and was participating in the camp's recreational activities.
The coroner's statement said the death is being investigated as accidental.
