Communications technicians will reconnect fiber optic cable across the Eggner's Ferry Bridge this weekend.

The Paducah Sun reported the work will be done Friday night.

The cable was severed when a ship struck the bridge over Kentucky Lake on Jan. 26, 2012, bringing down one section of it. AT&T temporarily restored Internet and telephone service by running a cable across the bottom of the lake.

A new cable has been strung across the bridge and workers will tie it into the main lines.

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet spokesman Keith Todd said work will begin at both ends of the bridge about 9 p.m. Friday. Traffic should not be affected.
