(Bowling Green, KY.) – Kentucky State Police say at 4:05 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, 18-year-old Kayla Phelps of Beaver Dam tried to make a left hand turn into King Drugs from the northbound turning lane of West G.L. Smith Street in Morgantown.
KSP says she pulled into the path of 38-year-old Butler County Deputy Sheriff, Bobbie Hooten, who was traveling south in his 2010 Dodge Patrol vehicle. Troopers say Phelps' 2001 Hyundai collided nearly head-on with Hooten's vehicle in the southbound lane.
Phelps and her passengers, Melinda Phelps,18, and Cindy Cockrel, 39, both of Morgantown, refused medical treatment at the scene. Deputy Hooten was transported by EMS to the Medical Center, where he was treated and released.
Both parties were wearing their seat belts at the time of the collision.
Trooper Brian McKinney is investigated the collision and was assisted on scene by Butler County Sheriff’s Office, Morgantown City Police, Butler County Rescue, Morgantown Fire Department, and Butler County EMS.
