Cave City Holds Alcohol Beverage Control Forum

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) -- Cave City residents recently voted to go wet. Now, city officials want the community to be aware of all state rules and regulations they must abide by.

Today, at the Cave City Convention Center, community members gathered for a forum hosted by the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control.

"This type of forum provides an overview, just the basics, so that they don't miss deadlines and know what the rules are going to be. It also provides transparency, so that they know exactly what's going to happen through the whole process, so everybody knows what's happening," The Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control's, Steven Humphress, said.

With the recent vote to go wet, Cave City businesses will soon have new opportunities.

"I basically explained to them the license type that will be available to them, also explained to them the statutory requirements for obtaining a license, prohibitions retain a license," Humphress said.

City officials say their alcohol market is restricted.

"Because of our population, we should only have one, but the state does not allow a monopoly, so they will have two licenses available, which means it could be one or two stores," Cave City Convention Center's, Sharon Tabor, said.

From this meeting, the community is now aware of the state beverage rules and regulations.

"I think a lot of people are interested, especially in the malt liquor, or malt beverage license, because that will be easier to obtain and we have more facilities that can start selling quicker," Tabor said.

Tabor also says this decision could have a positive impact on economic development and growth.

"I think people are anxious to see Cave City move forward, and this is one step to make it happen," Tabor said.

In July, the town voted to allow package liquor sales by a vote of 230-132.
