Century, Big Rivers CEOs Consider Discussions

By  |

Century Aluminum chief executive Mike Bless says he's willing to try to work out a deal to keep a western Kentucky aluminum smelter open.

Legislation to lower the smelter's electric bills was pulled from the House floor Thursday with the sponsor saying too much misinformation surrounded the issue.

The Gleaner in Henderson reported Friday that Bless told Big Rivers Electric Corp. CEO Mark Bailey late Thursday he was willing to work on a solution to keep the doors open at the smelter, which employs 700 in Hawesville.

The newspaper said Bailey contacted Bless by email after the bill was pulled to say the utility was open to trying to reach an agreement.
