A patchwork extension of federal farm programs passed as part of a larger "fiscal cliff" bill keeps the price of milk from rising but doesn't include many of the goodies that farm-state lawmakers are used to getting for their rural districts. Tourism season may be a little slow during the winter season, but Chaney's Dairy Barn has something to celebrate.
The Southeast Tourism Society has selected "Ice Cream and a Moovie" as one of its top 20 events for July 2013.
Between June and September Chaney's airs family friendly movies on the side of their barn.
More than 4,000 attended the event during the Summer of 2012.
The Chaney's say the idea started 8 years ago with the help from some fellow farmers.
"Before we ever opened the dairy barn we actually said oh, oh we have this great idea. We can show this movie on the side of the barn like these other people are doing it, but they are doing it in town and we can call it ice cream and a moooooovie," says Carl Chaney.
Chaney says the event continues to grow every summer.
