LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- A brief chemical leak at a plant in southwestern Louisville prompted officials to order nearby residents to stay inside their homes.

The hydrochloric acid leak at the DuPont Flouroproduct plant occurred shortly before 6 p.m. Sunday.

Residents within a mile of the plant were told to stay in the homes. The order was lifted before 9 p.m.

Officials say no injuries or exposures had been reported and no evacuations were ordered. About 800 homes were affected.

A spokeswoman with DuPont says the acid was a watered-down mixture, at about 35 percent potency. Workers at the plant were safely evacuated Sunday night.
