Construction Project at Three Springs Road

A state project is expected to make the traffic flow better on Three Springs Road in Bowling Green.

"There's a whole lot of traffic and congestion. So, this is an attempt to provide more storage, more through-put for the signal at Scottsville Road, and just allow traffic to move more efficiently in that area," said Greg Meredith, KY Dept. of Highways.

Officials say it is a project that will be divided up into multiple phases, and is hoped to be finished by the end of this year.

It runs from the intersection of Scottsville and Three Springs Road to the Three Springs Road Church of Christ.

Some business owners say the construction will hurt business, and cause some changes.

"Right now, it's a hindrance on business, the fact that we've only got one way in and out of the property now where we used to have two," said Richard Feldman, President of TW Motors.

"We're going to have to do some construction backwards toward our building, we're losing a lot of footage. So, we're going to have to change some curbs, shrubbery, parking lot spaces, entrances for customers. We're going to have to educate the customers on where to pull in. Saturdays are probably going to be a big time for us now. We're going to have to stay open late for service because a lot of people are going to avoid coming here during a weekday," said Brett Denver, General Manager of Luxury Imports.

The project will put several more lanes on the road, and will actually have six lanes at the intersection of Three Springs and Scottsville Road.

Ultimately though, most think this will help when it is completed.

"I think when they get the road finished, it's going to help everything. We have a tremendous amount of congestion out here now, especially if you get out here on the weekends. My goodness, it's hard as heck to get out of here," said Feldman.

Officials say they hope the project will be completed by the end of the year, but that depends on some things such as the weather.
