PADUCAH, Ky. (AP) -- A barge that is supporting a construction crane was discovered sinking into the Tennessee River over the Memorial Day weekend at the site of a new bridge being built between Paducah and Ledbetter.
Construction on the new bridge that will carry US 60 over the Tennessee River was halted for the holiday, but a worker who stopped by the site on Sunday noticed a barge carrying a crane was listing into the water.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet said officials with the construction company were going to consult with the Coast Guard to determine how to salvage the barge.
On Monday the barge was secured to the shoreline on the Livingston side of the river and booms have been placed in the water around the barge.
