Convict in Torture Slaying Now a High-Risk Inmate

PADUCAH, Ky. (AP) -- A jury in Paducah has convicted an inmate of assaulting a jail nurse as he awaits a murder sentencing.

The McCracken County jury returned a guilty verdict Tuesday against Mark Taylor, who was earlier convicted of murder and kidnapping in the 2010 torture and killing of 21-year-old CaSondra Evrard.

The assault case sprang from an incident in December 2010, shortly after Taylor was jailed in the killing. The misdemeanor conviction, however, tags Taylor as a high-risk prisoner. The jury recommended a one-year sentence.

Assistant Commonwealth Attorney Raymond McGee says the high-risk designation will likely mean Taylor's prison term will begin in isolation and it could sway a jury if he appeals his murder conviction.

Taylor is one of seven defendants in Evrard's killing.
