Here in South Central Kentucky July and August means it's peach season.

The day begins early in the morning for those at Jackson's Orchard who are busy hand picking and harvesting peaches to put on their shelves as customers also arrive early.

While rain storms and cooler temperatures may not be ideal for summer activities Bill Jackson, Owner of Jackson's Orchard, says the cooler summer temperatures has produced some of the best peaches they have seen in nearly 15 years.

"We've had an ideal spring. It was kind of a late spring, cool, and a lot of water and this summer has been fairly cool and again with a lot of water so it's been almost an ideal growing year not only for peaches but for apples, corn, soybeans, and wheat. Most farmers have a really good prospect of a really good crop this year."

Jackson adds, they should have peaches all the way until the first of September, and the ideal buying time is in August when the temperatures rise and the hot, dry weather gives the peaches even more flavor.
