LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- Investigators say a fire that killed two adults and five children earlier this month in southern Kentucky burned so hot they are unable to determine its cause.

State Fire Marshal spokesman Dick Brown and Kentucky State Trooper Shane Jacobs told The Associated Press on Wednesday arson investigators weren't able to nail down the cause of the March 9 fire in Gray because of severe damage to the house.

Brown said while the exact cause is not known, officials have concluded it was an accident.

The fire killed 27-year-old Jesse Disney; his fiance, 22-year-old Nina Asher; her three children, 3-year-old William Gray Jr., 2-year-old Camden Gray and 8-month-old Abigail Gray; and family friends who were staying over, 2-year-old Paiten Cox and 2-year-old Brielle Cox.

Original Story

A Kentucky coroner says two adults and five children have died in a house fire in rural southeastern Kentucky.

Knox County Coroner Mike Blevins says the names of those who died Saturday wouldn't be immediately released. Blevins says officials are trying to confirm their identities.

Blevins says the deceased are a man, a woman and five children. He says the woman was the mother of three of the children, and the other two were from another family.

Blevins and state police said the cause of the blaze in the Gray community near Corbin -- about halfway between Lexington, Ky., and Knoxville, Tenn. -- remained under investigation.

Troopers said someone called 911 at 9:57 a.m. Saturday. Firefighters stayed on the scene until the fire was out at 1 p.m.
