Court Appearance Set for USA Harvest Founder

The founder of USA Harvest is scheduled to appear in federal court on Dec. 20 for what his attorney says will likely be the resolution of charges he stole from the charity and failed to pay taxes on the money.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Dave Whalin on Wednesday reset the initial appearance for 63-year-old Hugh "Stan" Curtis of Louisville. Curtis had initially been set to appear in court in Louisville at the hearing.

Curtis' attorney, Scott Cox, said his client is ill but should be able to appear in court in about a month.

A bill of information charges Curtis with taking $183,354 in donations from the charity and charging $370,537.67 in personal travel expenses. He faces charges of mail fraud, money laundering and filing false income tax returns.
