UPDATE: Missing Man's Body Found

65-year-old Peter Schofield was found dead near his home off Youngs Ferry Road in Warren County Tuesday afternoon after dozens of people spent several hours searching for him.

It was a very cold day that had emergency officials fighting the temperature and daylight.

On Tuesday, part of the 2700 section of Youngs Ferry Road was the scene of an all out search for Schofield who went missing earlier Tuesday morning.

"The track of land they live on is approximately 187 acres, and it's pretty rough territory. So, we had a lot of ground to try and cover, and luckily we had the assistance of all the local volunteer fire departments," said Major Tommy Smith, Warren County Sheriff Chief Deputy.

Schofield went outside Tuesday morning, but when he didn't return his wife called police.

"He didn't really tell her. He was just walking in the woods, normal things that he did like that, cutting wood stuff like that," said Smith.

After about four hours of searching, Schofield's body was found.

A police report said Schofield was fatally struck trying to cut down a tree.

On a day like Tuesday with frigid temperatures, Emergency officials know they have to fight mother nature in their search.

"We know that we have a limited time that we can find someone. We also lose daylight shortly. We were looking at conditions tonight in the 14 degree area, so we knew that we had a couple hours left that we were trying to find someone," said Warren Co. Rescue Official Deborah Williams.

The search wasn't just on the ground, it was by plane, water, and even horseback with the help of some dogs.

While it may seem chaotic at times, emergency officials have a method to their madness.

"I know it just seems like you just go out and start walking, you don't do that. We have a very defined grid search that we use even on a space this big," said Williams.

Officials say the investigation is still ongoing.
