Crime Stoppers Helps Capture Suspect in Bank Robbery

Updated: Wed 8:35 PM, Sep 05, 2012

Police say Crime Stoppers and the people of Bowling Green are to thank for the arrest of the alleged BB&T Bank Robber from August 3rd.

"On Friday we were able to develop enough information to arrest Carlos Garcia-Hernandez in relation to the BB&T Bank Robbery on Nashville Road," says Bowling Green Police Public Information Officer, Ronnie Ward.

Garcia-Hernandez pleaded not guilty in court Wednesday afternoon, but police are saying they received three solid anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers saying he was the one who robbed BB&T.

"In this situation with had three different tips that when combined gave us the answer of who our criminal was," says Sonja Taylor, Bowling Green Crime Stoppers Board President.

"Each individual tip led us to a little more information and a little more information, until we were able to gather all of the tips together to come up with enough information to make the arrest," Officer Ward says.

Police say surveillance footage during the robbery and a car leaving the bank shortly after the robbery helped the public identify the suspect, which is the Crime Stoppers.

"This is fantastic! Our mission at Crime Stoppers is to bring together the media, the law enforcement, and the community to solve crimes in our area," Taylor says.

Police say getting three solid tips like this is rare, but they are glad it happened.

"This is absolutely a win for Crime Stoppers."

Garcia-Hernandez will have his second court appearance Friday.
