LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — A Nicholasville lawmaker has decided not to seek re-election next year.
State Rep. Bob Damron, a conservative Democrat who has served his central Kentucky district since 1993, said in a statement to the Lexington Herald-Leader that he has decided to run for judge-executive in Jessamine County instead.
Damron's decision could have implications beyond the 39th District at a time when Republicans are pushing hard to win a majority in the House.
The GOP will likely target the district in next year's election as they try to overcome the Democrats' 55-45 hold in the House.
