WARREN COUNTY, Ky. (WBKO) - Two people are dead after a crash on Nashville Road in Warren County.

It happened at about 3:00 Wednesday afternoon.

Officials say Michael Jernigan was driving south when he veered into the northbound lane, hitting Tara Ligon head-on.

Police say Jernigan was not wearing a seat belt and was air lifted to Vanderbilt Hospital. He later died because of his injuries.

Police say Ligon died at the scene and she was wearing a seat belt.

Authorities will spend the next few days investigating the crash through accident reconstruction.

"In order to understand what happened because right now we do not have any eyewitnesses we have two collision re-constructionists working with other units to reconstruct the scene and pinpoint exactly what happened," says Warren County Sheriff's Deputy Robert Boyden.

The families have been notified and police are still investigating.
