Deputies Searching For Escaped Inmate

HARDINSBURG, Ky. (AP) -- Police say they are searching for an escaped inmate in Breckinridge County who overpowered a deputy jailer and stole a van.

Breckinridge County Sheriff Todd Pate tells WAVE-TV (http://bit.ly/ONuwao) that the jail employee was transporting 41-year-old Robert Waddell from Breckinridge Memorial Hospital late Thursday night when Waddell got loose. Pate says the inmate used a sharp object to overpower the deputy, and then stole the van he was driving. Police say Waddell left the jailer in a rural area.

Police found the deputy jailer early Friday, and officers have been combing the area since then in search of Waddell. Police say he is 5-foot-11 and weighs about 210 pounds. He was in jail on charges of rape, burglary, and assault.
