Election 2012: Are College Voters As Important As In 2008?

Updated: Wed 5:35 PM, Aug 29, 2012

The Republican Convention is underway but some say something seems to be missing in this years election.

College voters and campaigns like "Rock The Vote" don't appear to be as strongly represented.

WKU Assistant Political Science Professor Joel Turner says President Obama has been on a college tour of late to encourage the vote.

While young voters are still an important demographic, Turner says the political environment has changed.

"Well it's going to be vastly different. I think that has a lot to do with the times are simply different. I mean during the last election things were going relatively well from an economic perspective when people were graduating they had a pretty good shot at getting a job, the atmosphere was about hope and change," says Turner.
