11/14: A dive team member helps with the search
ELKHORN CITY, KY. (AP) -- An eastern Kentucky fire department is forming a dive team in the wake of three people drowning in 2011 in the Russell Fork River.
Elkhorn City Volunteer Fire Chief John Moore said the four-man rescue team is going through initial training and should be ready by mid-summer.
Moore told the Appalachian News-Express that the Elkhorn City team will cooperate with the Millard dive team, which has a jet boat, and the Pikeville dive team, which has an air boat, Moore said.
Moore said the equipment for each member of the team costs from $1,800 to $2,000. The team has ordered diving equipment for the four team members and a flat bottom, 18-foot, Yamaha G3, jet propulsion boat.
