OWENSBORO, Ky. (AP) -- A one-time football and baseball coach at a western Kentucky high school has been arrested on charges of sexually abusing a juvenile student and possession of sexually explicit material involving minors.
The Owensboro Police Department says officers took 29-year-old Billy Wayne Cooper into custody Thursday morning.
Cooper worked as an aide, freshman baseball coach, a freshman football coach and assistant varsity football coach at Apollo High School. He was charged with three counts of sexually abusing a juvenile between Feb. 1 and April 10 of this year.
Police say Cooper allegedly had sex with a 17-year-old student. The Messenger-Inquirer reports (http://bit.ly/LyGQpQ ) that Cooper will make his next court appearance Friday morning.
Jail records did not list an attorney for Cooper.
