OWENSBORO, Ky. (AP) -- A one-time football and baseball coach at a western Kentucky high school, has been arrested on charges of sexually abusing a juvenile student, and possession of sexually explicit material involving minors.
The Owensboro Police Department says officers took 29-year-old Billy Wayne Cooper into custody Thursday morning.
Cooper worked as an aide, freshman baseball coach, freshman football coach, and assistant varsity football coach at Apollo High School. He was charged with three counts of sexually abusing a juvenile between February 1 and April 10 of this year.
Police say Cooper allegedly had sex with a 17-year-old student. The Messenger-Inquirer reports Cooper will make his next court appearance Friday morning.
Jail records did not list an attorney for Cooper.
