INEZ, Ky. (AP) -- Authorities are investigating the death of an inmate at a federal penitentiary in eastern Kentucky.
The FBI is investigating the death of 32-year-old Gregory Kittle. The U.S. Department of Justice said in a statement that Kittle died Monday after an "incident" involving other inmates in a housing unit at the Big Sandy prison.
The statement says prison staff responded immediately, but Kittle had suffered life-threatening injuries and died after being taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Kittle had been at the prison since October 2012. He was serving a 113-month handed down by the District of Columbia Superior Court for simple assault, assault with intent to kill, assault on a law enforcement officer, threats to injure a person, and possession of a firearm.
