A quiet Friday evening in a Franklin neighborhood was shattered by violence. Phillip Allen returned to his home with groceries, but not before chatting with a friend outside.
Allen's screams for help are the last thing his girlfriend Becky Davis remembers.
"He yelled sort of. Call 911, I am gushing blood I just got stabbed," recalls Davis.
Franklin Police arrived on scene to find Allen stabbed multiple times. He was rushed to a local hospital where he later died. An investigation and search of the neighborhood by police found the suspect, Jerry Huff, in a neighbors backyard.
"He was located near his residence behind a house hiding and was then arrested and charged with murder," says Lt. Detective Art McFadden from the Franklin Police Department.
Becky Davis says she met Huff the other day. She knew her boyfriend and Huff were close friends.
Friends, who had no history of violence.
"Jerry Huff brought him a present for Christmas and knocked on the door and ran across the yard and said Ho Ho Ho, Merry Christmas. We opened the door and there was a present there," says Davis.
Neighbors along Rawls Avenue, where the incident took place, say Phillip Allen was always looking out for others. He wasn't the type to get into trouble.
"He actually told me several times if you need anything or anyone bothers you just holler. We will be here, we will watch your back," says neighbor Sandra Goostree.
"He seemed pretty good. Stayed to himself. Never hardly heard from him or seen him. He stayed in doors most of the time," says neighbor Joe Meader.
Now neighbors, family and friends in the neighborhood are left with many questions about what happened Friday evening.
Jerry Huff is being held in the Simpson County Detention Center.
The investigation by Franklin Police on a possible motive continues.
