UPDATED 7:36 PM -- Fire broke out at Basil Griffin Park just after 2:00 p.m. Friday. Firefighters from six volunteer departments battled the blaze for more than an hour before getting it under control.
Thick, black smoke could be seen billowing into the air from more than a mile away. The blaze took most of the roof off a concession stand between the baseball fields at the Warren County park.
The building is considered a total loss, but they were able to save some of the baseball equipment inside. There were no injuries and the cause of the fire is not yet known.
Plano Assistant Fire Chief Kevin Bailey says an arson investigator has been called in, although he says there is nothing suspicious about the blaze. The Plano, Alvaton, Woodburn, Barren River, Browning and Gott fire departments stayed on the scene until 6:00 p.m., securing the area.
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) -- Bowling Green firefighters were called to a blaze at Basil Griffin Park just after 2:00 p.m. Friday.
Multiple units were fighting the flames that were engulfing the concession stand at the Warren County Parks and Rec softball complex.
We're told no fire hydrants were available, so firefighters got the water from the lake at the park.
