First lady Jane Beshear has delivered a $50,000 grant to the western Kentucky city of Trenton for a walking trail.
Beshear was joined by Democratic state Rep. Martha Jane King, who is seeking re-election on Nov. 6, when she made the presentation Thursday.
Such events have drawn criticism from Republicans who claim Kentucky's Democratic governor and his wife have been traveling the state under the guise of official business to campaign for Democratic legislative candidates.
King is running in Logan and Todd counties against Republican Chris Hightower.
Beshear said such trails benefit Kentucky communities. Trenton plans to use the money to build a 3,000-foot-long concrete trail for walking, cycling and skating along U.S. 41.
King said the trail will enhance the quality of life in Todd County.
