BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) -- Along with many other states, Kentucky is now considered to have a widespread case of the flu. Pharmacies around Bowling Green said the number of people getting flu shots this year is up due to the aggressive strain of this year's virus. Experts said preventative shots protect against multiple strains. They also say getting one earlier helps defeat the changing virus.
"There is a four strain and there is a three strain. The most common is the three strain that is given. As far as the effectiveness from year to year, it really varies. That's because the virus itself can easily mutate," said Pharmacist, Jarrod Ramsey.
Pharmacists said though more people are getting shots every year, most people who have come in diagnosed with the flu, did not get a shot.
