ASHLAND, Ky. (AP) -- A health department has confirmed flu cases in eastern Kentucky and is urging people in the community to get vaccinated.
WYMT-TV (http://bit.ly/PsaYe6) reports the flu cases confirmed by the Ashland-Boyd County Health Department are the first cases of seasonal flu reported in Kentucky.
The health department says although flu season typically begins in the fall, there can be a low level of activity as early as late summer. All the cases in Boyd County so far are a strain that is included in this season's vaccine.
