Kentucky National Guard members from several units were among those called to respond to the crisis more than 50 years ago when the East German government began construction of what came to be called "the Iron Curtain." This weekend some of those soldiers will gather in western Kentucky.
More than 1,500 Kentucky National Guard soldiers were included in President John F. Kennedy's response to the events, including the 2nd Medium Tank Battalion, 123rd Armor; 3rd Medium Tank Battalion, 123rd Armor; and the 413th Ordnance Company.
A ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. CDT Saturday at the Education Building auditorium at the Wendell H. Ford Regional Training Center in Greenville.
