FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — Former U.S. Sen. Wendell Ford is urging people to send cash to Democrat Alison Lundergan Grimes, Kentucky's secretary of state who is seeking her party's nomination to run for Senate.
Ford, a Democrat, weighed in on Friday, offering his endorsement of the 34-year-old Grimes and urging contributions of $5 or more to help her win the seat now held by Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell.
The time has come, he said, for a new generation of leadership.
Grimes is the Democratic front-runner in a four-way primary race. She would likely face the winner of a Republican matchup between McConnell and Louisville businessman Matt Bevin who formally entered the race earlier this week.
