Former UK Basketball Great Crigler Dies at 76

John Lloyd Crigler, a forward on Kentucky's 1958 national championship basketball team, died Saturday in Georgetown.

Crigler, 76, played under coach Adolph Rupp and scored 14 points in the 1958 title game against Elgin Baylor's Seattle team. He played with teammates Johnny Cox, Ed Beck, Vernon Hatton and Adrian Smith.

The News-Graphic in Georgetown reports Crigler had been a teacher, coach and athletic director at Scott County High School for more than 40 years.

Crigler was born in Hebron in Boone County, but spent much of his life in Scott County.

Visitation is Monday at Harmony Christian Church in Georgetown with funeral services at 11 a.m. Tuesday, with a private burial in the Georgetown Cemetery.
