FORT KNOX, Ky. (AP) -- Fort Knox is opening its gates to anyone who wants to visit the post's 121 cemeteries on Memorial Day.
Fort Knox says most of the cemeteries have ties to former area towns such as Stithton, Grahamton and Pitts Point as well as rural church cemeteries and family graveyards. The post says President Abraham Lincoln's grandmother is even among those buried there.
Anyone seeking entry will be screened, and checkpoint staff will help those seeking specific gravesites. The post says visitors should be prepared to present a valid driver's license and cell phone number before entering.
For more information, call (502) 624-6591 beginning at 8 a.m. EDT May 28. The post will be open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. that day.
